Construcción modular al rescate
El Centro Oncológico Inspira de Woodbury, Nueva Jersey, necesitaba urgentemente dar servicio a los pacientes de cáncer de las comunidades circundantes. La decisión de desarrollar un nuevo tipo de instalación compuesta por tecnologías modulares permitió una construcción más rápida para suministrar con mayor celeridad los tratamientos médicos a quienes los necesitaban. Desde el principio del proceso de diseño se determinó que la salud y la comodidad de los pacientes y sus familias tendrían prioridad. Teniendo en cuenta el calendario y la rapidez con la que el centro empezaría a prestar servicios, los propietarios llegaron a la conclusión de que las instalaciones podían diseñarse para reflejar un mayor nivel de calidad de diseño y construcción.
El centro de oncología constaba de varios espacios comunes a la mayoría de los centros médicos, como despachos, zona de recepción, salas de conferencias, salas de espera, salas de reconocimiento, salas de descanso e instalaciones auxiliares. Se dotó al centro de una sensación de apertura mediante un claristorio y un muro cortina de entrada para maximizar la iluminación natural. Se instalaron fachadas innovadoras y atractivas en el exterior del edificio para mejorar su estética. Se encargaron esculturas de arte únicas que se colocaron alrededor de las instalaciones, entre el hermoso paisaje que rodea el centro.
Además, este centro incluía una sala SIM de tomografía computarizada para agilizar la obtención de imágenes de los pacientes en el centro y una sala LINAC para llevar a cabo la terapia de protones, en la que se utilizan rayos X o electrones de alta energía para combatir los tumores y destruir las células cancerosas. En la construcción se incorporaron salas de control especializadas contiguas a los respectivos espacios de terapia.
Sustainable Modular Management Inc., con el apoyo del fabricante Southeast Modular Manufacturing, pudo trabajar con Inspira Health Network Group para diseñar, desarrollar y, finalmente, construir un centro médico altamente técnico, sofisticado, innovador y acogedor en menos de un año.
